Yeah, yeah, I know. It's been forever and a half since this blog has seen any sort of action. But I figured I'd go ahead and use this space for what I'd originally intended to do: posting samples of my fics.
My current muse is the Star Wars game, Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), so lately, all the stuff I've been working on has been centered around that. And on that note...
Bastilla stretched out her hand and fingered the battered orange jacket lying at the foot of the bed.
“Carth’s jacket,” she murmured softly. Images of the Republic soldier who had worn the jacket almost religiously came to mind, and she slowly picked it up. She jumped almost guiltily as a soft laugh came from the doorway.
“I’ve been meaning to get rid of that old thing,” Revan said in a conversational tone. “But for some reason, I can never bring myself to actually do it.” She smiled reassuringly at Bastilla, who hastily put down the jacket as the other woman entered the room.
“Revan,” she began slowly, “it’s been three years. Don’t you think it’s time to let go?”
“I know. But it just doesn’t seem real to me. Any minute now, he’ll walk through that door with that cocky grin of his and sweep me off my feet. Or so I find myself thinking. I have to constantly remind myself that he’s gone.”
She walked over to the bed and picked up the jacket Bastilla had just dropped.
“You know, some nights, I wrap this jacket around me before going to bed. And if I close my eyes tightly, and concentrate really hard, I can almost feel his arms around me. His warm breath would almost be tickling my ear, his heartbeat slow and steady next to mine.”
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears as she smiled wistfully. “And I can almost hear him say, ‘Stop thinking so loudly, Gorgeous, and go to sleep.’”
Bastilla’s heart ached as she pulled the older woman into a tight hug.
The idea for this snippet came from one of the official fan media challenges on the
Unofficial KOTOR Fan Media forums. The original challenge was to write about the death of a character in the game. This idea immediately came to mind, but I was unable to use it, since the challenge called for the character death to have either occurred within the fic itself, or immediately prior. I eventually came up with
Ten Minutes, the story I ended up entering in the challenge, but this story idea kept rolling around in my head. I will probably write the entire fic someday, but for now, this will have to do.
