He didn't know what she saw in him. The other man wasn't overly handsome, his ordinary, slightly asymmetric features and pale coloring almost clashing with her warm, classic beauty. Their personalities seemed mismatched, his immature, glib humor at odds with her quiet, laconic intellect.
"Why him?" he asked her once.
"I'm not sure, sir." She shrugged, a rare softness in her eyes as she glanced over at the pilot. "He makes me... better."
He raised an eyebrow at the stately woman next to him. A hard look, then an easy smile. "Yeah, okay."
She'd found her happiness. That was enough.
