I was surprised to find that I actually had very little black clothing in my closet.  When I was in grad school, it seemed as if all I ever wore was black.  Perhaps it was a reflection of my mood--I was getting therapy for clinical depression back then.  But I'm just amazed that I've been buying such colorful clothes since then.

Sadly, this doesn't help when one actually needs black clothes for a funeral.

Shopping is such a hassle now.  I don't know why; I used to love going shopping.  Now, it's like pulling teeth.  So time consuming.  But I did manage to get through the mall and get a few black outfits.

My aunt would have loved going shopping with me.

I've had this line running through my head all day today: "Taken away so young, taken away without warning..."  I always thought this song was beautifully sad, but now it has a deeper meaning for me.  She was only 58 years old, you see, and we were so optimistic about her prognosis.

I've never lost anyone close to me before, so I'm not sure how to deal with this kind of grief.  I am so grateful for the time I had with her, but I'm also so ANGRY that she's gone.  My mind kept wandering at work, making it hard to focus.  My aunt is gone, and all I do is think, "Today is my BIRTHDAY; why did it have to happen NOW?"  I feel so guilty for being annoyed that from now on, my birthday will be forever linked with my aunt's death.

I'll be flying to Taiwan next week.  My grandmother wants me to stay at her place after the funeral, but when I think about how the last time I went to her house, my aunt had gone with me, I just start crying again.

I miss her.

Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

I just got a call from Citibank.  Apparently, someone got ahold of my credit card number and charged over $2000 at a travel agency, with another $1300 charge elsewhere.  Needless to say, I did not authorize these charges and this account will be closed.

WTF.  I am fairly troubled by the fact that this is the card I keep for "backup" purposes--most of my charges are done with a different card.  In fact, aside from a few automatic recurring charges (like my Blockbuster and my webhosting monthly fees), the last time I actually physically used the card was back in June, when I was in Europe.  And yes, the card is still in my wallet.

I am just very glad that the credit card company caught these charges, or I would have been very confused and/or terrified when I checked my statement next month.

Can I just say how much love Google News alerts? If only because this is what came up in the daily news digest email today. Something that I wouldn't have found on my own since I don't check British news sites all that often... well, other than BBC News, but that's usually only when I want to read news that isn't the usual U.S.-biased fare I get sometimes from CNN.

ANYWAY. I am rambling for I cannot contain the gleeish excitement I felt upon reading the following paragraph:

And soon the Tennant effect will no longer be confined to Stratford-upon-Avon. The production moves to the Novello Theatre in London in December and, according to Gregory Doran, director of the Tennant Hamlet, there’s a possibility that the production will then move to New York.

Uhhh... WHAT?!?!?!

Never was I as grateful to have moved to the East Coast as I was when I first read that line.  I mean, seriously.  New York is only a "short" four hour drive from Boston.  And I am perfectly willing, and perhaps even eager, to make the journey, if it means the chance to see David Tennant as Hamlet.  And let's not forget Patrick Stewart (!) as Claudius, for I am, and always shall remain, a Trekkie at heart.

So I've been thinking about writing an actual Doctor Who fic, and not just random drabbles. Which would be an interesting endeavor--despite having devoured each and every episode of the new Who series, I don't know if I could do the characters justice in my portrayal. Especially after reading some of the other authors out there in this fandom. But forge ahead I shall... one can't ever improve without trying, eh?

My original thought was to write about the Doctor and Rose on an adventure and meeting up with Elizabeth Bathory. An uncommon enough subject, I thought, and one that no one else would think of! And in fact, the only reason I know of the name is from watching Ghost Hunters International on the SciFi channel (I love me some paranormal stuff). Imagine my shock and disbelief when I saw someone post a story to [ profile] time_and_chips with a summary about the Doctor and Rose going to 17th century Hungary and meeting the Bloody Countess. Well, pooh.

I have the beginnings of an idea for another story in my head now. I can tell you right now that I'll be mightily displeased and may descend into paranoia if someone posts a story with the same basic plot next week...

In other news, I'm working on tonight's drabble. Slight smut (oh my!), of which I have not attempted to write before. Would have had it written and posted yesterday, but my cousin's aunt invited me over to dinner... and I never say no to free food. ^_~

So, the new postdoc in the lab is British AND named Martha.  Which makes for some real tangential thought processes when I'm having a conversation with her (or about her, even).

Martha: blah blah blah something about science and our various projects in her lovely British accent blah blah blah
Me (in my mind): Martha... tee hee hee... Doctor Who... tee hee hee... David Tennant... tee hee hee... so sexy... *drooooool*
Me (out loud): Uhhhhhhh...

At least I can be glad her last name isn't Jones...

So this drabble-a-day thing I started is probably not going to be so much "-a-day" as it is "-every-few-days". Writing the 100 words is fine, and I dare say, easy... but the actual thinking of something to write is killing me. And while it gets me into the practice of writing daily for Nanowrimo (50,000 words in a month... egads, what have I signed myself up for?!?!), I'll be working off of a story outline for that, which means all the brainstorming I need to do should be done by the the time I actually start writing.  Knock on wood.  :P
